We are excited to share that Central Kitsap School District has a Therapy Dog Program!
Research shows that therapy dogs in schools can:
- Help students build strong social-emotional skills
- Reduce anxiety and support anger management
- Improve empathy, compassion, and connection at school
- Boost confidence, self-esteem, and even academic performance
All of our therapy dogs are certified through recognized organizations such as the Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD), Pet Partners, Canine Companions, or other AKC-recognized groups.
To become certified, dogs must:
- Be at least one year old with a sound temperament
- Pass an evaluation with a certified handler
- Meet strict grooming, cleanliness, and veterinary health requirements
- Continue regular evaluations to maintain certification
If you would like to opt your child out of participating in the Therapy Dog Program, please contact the main office.
